If hot water comes out of the tap then people assume their hot water heater is operating safely and efficiently. Unfortunately, that is not always the case. A water heater, like your furnace, should be checked every year to be sure it is operating safely. Sediment and rust are constantly attacking your water heater and create an unsafe situation within your home or place of work. A Water Heater Man Safety Check may prevent a future problem.

Our eight-point safety check includes:

  1. Check the tank, pipe connections, the valves and underneath the unit for leaks.
  2. Inspect the pressure-relief valve for corrosion. If rusty, this should be replaced right away.
  3. Inspect shut-off valve to water heater that it opens and closes freely.
  4. On a gas or oil-fired unit, check and clean combustion chamber.
  5. Check and adjust flame height of pilot light.
  6. Check flue vent for rust, corrosion, and obstructions.
  7. Inspect the thermocouple on gas-or oil-fired water heaters or resistance on electric heaters.
  8. Keep water temperature between 120 and 130 degrees. (Check with a thermometer under the tap.) Higher temperatures could cause accidents that scald or burn people.
Installers may not have replacement parts for all water heaters.
